The Scoutmaster is responsible to the parents'
committee for operating the troop in accordance with the policies set down
by the Boy Scouts of America, the troop's chartering institution, and the
parents' committee.
His responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Managing the troop program
The actions of the Patrol Leaders' Council
The welfare of every scout in troop and patrol activities
Training and coaching boy leaders
Showing a personal interest in every scout and his development
The
Scoutmaster is assisted by several dedicated Assistant Scoutmasters (four, at
the moment). We ask these Assistant Scoutmasters to commit to attending
most events. We ask them to serve as coaches/mentors to patrol leaders,
assist in advancement, and to support outings. Further, we ask them to attend several training sessions that
the BSA recommends in order to
consider them fully "trained" to properly fill this important position.
New Assistant Scoutmasters
If you are interested in contributing to Troop 147 as an Assistant
Scoutmaster, we ask that you first get involved in other support capacities for
a 3-6 month period — attending and leading outings, getting
to know the troop and boys, observing and learning about the various roles.
The parents' committee is an excellent place to begin establishing this
familiarity.
Several of our scoutmasters began their involvement with the troop by serving
on the parents' committee.
